ESMA seeks experts in sustainable finance for its new Consultative Working Group

04/04/2022

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU’s securities markets regulator, is seeking candidates for its newly established Consultative Working Group (CWG) of the Coordination Network on Sustainability (CNS). The CWG will have approximately 20 members, selected for a renewable term of two years, and will be composed of experts in sustainable finance.

The CWG, announced in ESMA’s Sustainable Finance Roadmap 2022-24, will provide technical input into various areas of ESMA’s work on sustainable finance under the CNS. Therefore, ESMA is seeking experts from a variety of backgrounds and the different segments of the sustainable investment value chain, as well as with diverse expertise relating to one or more of the environmental social and governance (ESG) topics, to support a cross-cutting, transversal approach to sustainable finance matters.

ESMA is particularly interested in applications from experts representing institutional and retail investors, investment managers, investment services providers, issuers, benchmarks administrators, credit and ESG ratings providers, auditors, third-party verifiers, data providers, financial innovation players, market infrastructures and non-governmental organisations, think tanks or research units, with expertise in the field of sustainable finance.

The CNS was established to facilitate ESMA’s transversal work in the field of sustainable finance. It provides advice to ESMA’s sectorial Standing Committees and Networks on this field and provides national competent authorities with a forum to discuss cross-cutting issues and initiatives. The CNS develops ESMA’s views on cross-cutting issues and may point to areas requiring additional research by ESMA and to potential inconsistencies in EU legislation.
